Our breastfeeding tops made the Bristol Evening Post
Filed under: Breastfeeding Tops, Breastfeeding in the news; Tagged as: breast feeding tops, breastfeeding bristol, nursing tops, nursing wearNo CommentsBe warned this is from ages ago but i just noticed i never scanned the original article in for you guys to see and i was checking out the Bristol Evening Post’s website and found this article they wrote on us last year.

By Ekoch Emily Koch E.Koch
After the traumatic birth of her daughter, Liz Jeans decided if she could make it through that she could do anything.
Baby Amelia was not breathing when she was born and had to be resuscitated, and Liz’s blood pressure was so high doctors feared she might have a stroke.
Four years later, 35-year-old Liz has given up her day job and set up her own internet-based clothing business.
Mama Feels Good sells a range of fashionable t-shirts for mums-to-be and breastfeeding women.
Liz, who runs her business from her home in Little Stoke, has been building the business up over the past four years and finally gave up her job as a biomedical scientist at Southmead Hospital a few weeks ago to concentrate on Mama Feels Good full-time.
The Mama Feels Good T-shirts, featuring specially created designs, are sized especially for pregnant women, and the breastfeeding range make it easier for new mums to breastfeed their baby discreetly and comfortably.
She said: “There are a lot of people saying it is a bad time for business, with the recession, but I haven’t been put off. It has really taken off so it seemed like the right time to put some more hours into it. We launched the website a few months ago and we have been making lots of sales – to people in this country, the US, Australia. And now people from Poland and Canada as well are contacting me wanting to stock the T-shirts in their shops. It’s fantastic.”
She said the inspiration for the business came when Amelia, now four, was born.
Liz said: “Her birth was so awful that I felt like getting through that was a big achievement. I thought if I could go through something like that, I could go through anything. After she was born I started selling American maternity wear online in the UK, but then I thought I would like to sell clothes that I really liked.
“I also found that the maternity clothing market in this country was not very good, the clothes I got didn’t look very nice and fell apart. I wanted to buy clothes that I really wanted, not clothes that were my only option.
“Mum made up a T-shirt for me and I got it printed – and everyone said how much they liked it. It all went from there! Now we are selling at least 200 T-shirts a month. I get letters from mums saying the T-shirts have changed their life because they can go out and feel good about what they are wearing for a change.”
The idea for the name came from her husband, Matthew.
Liz said: “I was getting really frustrated coming up with a name and he said, well what do you want the business to stand for? I said – I just want mums to feel good – and we had it.”

Breastfeeding in public – why the big debate?
Filed under: Breastfeeding Tops, Breastfeeding in the news; Tagged as: breast feeding tops, breastfeeding in public, breastfeeding tops, feedingbaby in public, hooter hiders, nursing topsNo CommentsI spotted today this article on the Guardian website today about Hooter Hiders , they are breastfeeding covers for nursing your baby in public ( BTW thanks to the lady who posted a comment recomending our breastfeeding tops
) .I just don’t get why they would be such a big issue about them? OK so if i am being honest they are not my cup of tea, and i know i am one of the most forgetful people never so i would go out and forget them but hey if ladies want to wear them then just wear them, anything which makes your breastfeeding experience better can only be a good thing? There is SO much pressure on ladies on how they should be feeding their babies ie breast Vs bottle i don’t think we need extra stress about what we wear whilst we do it.
Ok i sell nursing tops so you could say i am biased but i created Mama Feelsgood to provide an option for women who want a choice of maternity wear / nursing wear i’m not saying you Got to wear them, breastfeeding tops are like chocolate, you can live without it but it makes your life that little bit better ( ha ha well i suppose that depends upon if you like chocolate or not!).
i don’t know if it is the culture we live in here in the UK but people love to judge others and give their options, maybe it’s because shows such as the X Factor are popular where basically they have celebrities passing judgement on others we think it;s acceptable to do this in everyday life. If a lady likes to / feels more comfortable wearing a Hooter Hider or breastfeeding top then whats the problem?
What do you think?

Blimey it’s cold outside! Don’t panic we have Long sleeve breast feeding tops too!
Filed under: Breastfeeding Tops; Tagged as: breast feeding pyjam, breast feeding tops, breastfeeding dress, breastfeeding tops, nurisng tops, nursing dress, nursing pyjamasNo CommentsHave i missed something and we have been transported into October? This August weather is crazy, here in Mama Feelsgood hub (ie Bristol!) one minute it’s really close and sweaty weather and then today it’s raining and the heating has had to go on! As a UK brand it makes things really crazy when trying to produce a new breastfeeding clothing range as our weather is getting so unpredictable, so do we make short sleeve nursing dresses or long sleeve breast feeding tops ? Maybe we should do 3/4 length sleeves and then be suitable for both ?
At the moment i am really into watching the programme Dexter, just finished watching Season 1 ( yeah i am late to catch onto this programme , but trying to make up for it) for those who haven’t seen it, it’s based in Miami and it always looks hot there. Got me thinking of wow what would it be like to live somewhere where the climate was pretty constant all year round . Here it’s just so up and down all the time but somewhere like Miami you could just have 1 wardrobe for the whole year. Please correct me if i am being dense as maybe Miami isn’t so hot all the time . But that would make my life SO much easier. Our nursing tops could be all shorter sleeved, breast feeding vests could be made etc.
What’s your opinions, do you think many people would wear nursing vests to breast feed in, i personally only wouldwear a breastfeeding vest to bed and not everyday but i know a lot of people are very different from me. Also breastfeeding pyjamas and bedwear whould you wear a pair of nursing pyjama’s? I’ve got a small baby and i honestly just wear a T-shirt to bed, i’m not too fussed about what i look like breastfeeding late at night but what about you?
We are trying to build up a nice collection of breast feeding clothing that suits our customers needs, what is it you are looking for? What would make your life as a breast feeding mum easier from an apparel point of view?
Our breast feeding T-shirts are really funky and we think lush but we want to expand our range and need feedback to provide the best we can, you along with the need for a variation of different style of nursing clothes ie because of our changing season here in the UK what else should we be doing?

OK so you have finished breastfeeding so you no longer have the need for your fantastic Mama Feelsgood nursing top , well no missy you can think again ! Thats the fantastic thing about our breast feeding T-shirts is they can easily be changed into a “normal ” tee with no real hassle.
Our Nursing T-shirts all have an under layer sewn into them, so when you put the shirt on the 2 layers don’t become missaligned and then bunched up all over the place, you know the feeling you go to lift your top up to feed and find your clothes have moved and what you thought was hidden well it’s hanging out all over the place. Thats why our nursing tees make breastfeeding that little bit easier, they keep you covered when you wanna be.
So back to the conversion, basically you turn the shirt inside out and you will see the under layer is sewn into the top layer shirt at the shoulders and around the neck. So remove the underlayer just snip the threads at the shoulder taking care not cut the outer shirt. Then you can cut around the neck (the underlayer part on inside of nursing tee ) and dah dah you have a “normal” t-shirt. If you are good at sewing you can overlock the loose threads left by the under layer part around the neck (there will be a little bit of under layer left around inside of neck so not to cut the outer layer tee) so they won’t fray. Hey it;s not perfect but no one can see the underlayer from the outside.
We make all our nursing T-shirts so they are long enough so they can be worn without the under layer if you wish when you don’t need the nursing function. Plus as loads of customers say they are such funky shirts you would want to wear them even if you weren’t breastfeeding.
I’ll try and put some pictures on later to demonstrate how it works, but if you have one of our nursing tops then it will be pretty obvious how you can do this. Just shows our breastfeeding tops are multi functional !

It’s a hard job being a mother and it must be a hard job being a new mother and having the press taking pictures of your every move, OMG i dread to think if i were “famous” the press would have had a field day taking pictures of me looking crappy. I along with many other women have been guilty of going out with baby vomit in my hair when i thought i’d washed it all out, and milk stains on my top which i had been wearing for about 2 days because i just haven’t had the time to put a load of washing on (my daughter is now 14 weeks old so things are getting better, although you may notice i am writing this entry at 3 in the morning because she’s been up crying for 2 hours and only just been put back down!) and i own a breastfeeding clothing company!! If anyone should have tons of clothes right now it should be me!
So back to DVO, basically she has stated the reason she has given up breastfeeding her daughter is because she doesn’t want to get papped (ie photographed) breastfeeding her daughter, and does not want her boobies to be splashed across the papers. I do get where she is coming from, there are some really scanky newspapers out there which act like immature boys and who would in a heart beat publish a picture like this. Ooh boobies , nevermind the fact that it’s a personal thing between miss Van Outen and her baby they would just invade her privicy. But we all know that breastfeeding is really beneficial so all i would say to Denise is , dude it;s your choice just like it’s every womens choice to breastfeed but if you did want to reconsider there are ways you can breastfeed in public without showing the world what you’ve got. IE Mama Feelsgood nursing tops
Also ladies you could always express into a bottle for when on the move (surely a person can’t be out all the time , so it would be only the occasional feed during the day) if you are concerned about things. If you want to breastfeed your baby don;t let other peoples narrow minded opinions put you off. Once you get the hang of breastfeeding in public you’ll be wapping them out everywhere (with the assistance of our Mama Feelsgood breatsfeeding tops of course!)
What do you guys think about Miss Van Outen decision ?
Here is an article from The Daily Mail i found on this:
here are many reasons that new mothers might opt out of breastfeeding.
Some find it too painful, some find it too difficult. Denise Van Outen, on the other hand, simply found it too public.
The 36-year-old actress said she gave up breastfeeding her daughter Betsy after less than a month, claiming she didn’t like the idea of being spotted nursing in Starbucks. Or, heaven forbid, the Post Office.
probably should have persevered a bit longer than three weeks,’ she said in her first interview since her daughter’s arrival in May.
‘But I can’t be sitting in Starbucks and breastfeeding, because they [photographers] are taking pictures.
‘Another time, I was at the back of a really long queue at the Post Office to get Betsy a passport, knowing that in the next half hour she was going to wake up and cry, wanting a feed
‘And, sure enough, when I got to the front, that’s exactly what she did. And I felt so conscious of the pressures of everybody looking, tutting and waiting to see how I dealt with the situation because they knew my face.
Miss Van Outen, who is married to West End actor Lee Mead, explained that self-consciousness wasn’t the only reason for her decision to choose the bottle for Betsy.
‘I wasn’t producing enough milk and Lee wanted to be able to feed her,’ she told She magazine

Denise appears in the August issue of SHE, on sale Saturday

We like to think we are a company whom listens to our customers
So we thought we would ask you what would you like to see from a nursing top?We are in the process of designing our next range of nursing tops and wanted to know what can we make for you that you would really want? We’re not talking what would “do” or “yeah that would get me by” what do you wanna wear that will make you look and feelgood when breastfeeding your baby?
OK so we know clothes that are made to breast feed your baby in have to be practical, we’re not talking nursing tops with a halter necks or nipple tassles !!! ha ha although judging by some of the emails we get some ladies might like that ha ha. The fabric has to wash well as we know you will be getting a lot of use of of the tops so delicate fabrics such as silk etc aren’t the ideal type, but in general terms of style what do you guys want?
If we start talking nursing openings – the double layer top where you pull up the use the double side openings, do you prefer these or do you o prefer the pull down style nursing shirt? ie a deep v neck and you can pull down the shirt to feed your baby. To be honest i always found these nursing tops a little more exposing than the pull up double layer type, but it;s not all about me…it;s about you
Long sleeve, short sleeve, dark, light what kinda nursing clothing do you want to see available?

How our breastfeeding tops work
Filed under: Breastfeeding Tops; Tagged as: breast feeding clothing, breast feeding tops, how nursing tops work, nursing clothingNo CommentsOk so we received and email asking how our nursing tops work ie the functionality of them; we have written in the wording next to each shirt how they work and what we have figured out is a lot of people don;t read it ! ha ha, so this makes us think we have to get the point across without so much reading!
There is also a thumbnail of a photograph on each of the nursing top pages to show that breastfeeding top works, so just click on it and it shows the side opening in the under layer of the shirts.I think in future i will get a page done of it’s own to show and tell ladies how it works because i know when you are new to these tops it’s like how’s that gonna work etc ha ha!
So our nursing tops work on the basis that each shirt has a regular looking top layer, so they look like “normal” t-shirts and sewn into them is an under layer. SO they are 1 shirt, you cannot take the under layer away it’s sewn into the shirt so it doesn’t move about and bunch up etc.
So when it comes to feeding your baby you pull the top layer of the nursing shirt up so it exposes the under layer (your tummy is still covered by the under layer) and they choose which side you want to feed from. Then simply there are vertical opening on each side of the under layer of the breastfeeding shirt and you undo or pull down your bra, pull the underlayer across slightly and hey presto you can feed. After a bit of getting use to the top some ladies have perfected the art of doing it with one hand !
You can then use the top layer of the nursing shirt to provide some privacy and the bottom layer is great for mopping up little spills of milk. One ladies commented that her baby was quite a messy drinker and loved to ping off the breast then latch back on but in the process squirted a lot of milk every where and she then had to walk around with wet patches on her shirt, since using our tops the under layer soaked a lot of the excess milk up and she could pull the top layer down to cover the patches on the under layer! So hey they are many benefits to our nursing tops!!
