Deformational Plagiocephaly or flat head syndrome in babies
No CommentsI know it sounds terrible doesn’t it but from personal experience don’t panic Mr Mannering!! (for all you younger guys thats from Dads Army…well i think it is ha ha).
My daughter had deformational plagiocephaly (basically 1 side of her head was kinda flat and misshaped ) because she liked to lie in one certain position when she was asleep. We are all told now to lie our babies on their backs because if risk of cot death etc and that brings the issue of some babies like to sleep with their head in 1 position ie favour 1 side and because their skulls are so soft it can misshape their heads. Of course there are degrees of severity, and we were told just to re position her onto the other side and things would sort themselves out and they did.
Here is a link to a website which gives mush greater detail than i can, but remember if you are worried always seek medical advice, and it’s not always bad, my daughter looks absolutely fine now (shes 4 ) and it didn’t look bad when she did have it as a baby!
