Breastfeeding photoshoot on monday

It’s going to be such a blast , it’s our photoshoot for our new nursing tops on monday. Please let it be dry as i really wanna get some shots outside, although the weather here in Bristol at the moment has been completely different everyday so far! Sheri and jess are our models again and it’s so much fun, i’ve learnt the art of chilling out a bit now, our first ever photoshoot we did i was so up tight and moody ha ha. You watch Americas next top model and think it looks easy but i can tell you it really isn’t!! To be a good model you’ve just got to enjoy what you do and have the patience of a saint!

Of course it totally helps that Laura our photographer is a total dream to work with, she has SUCH a good imagination , some of the poses she think up are wicked.

Because i myself an pregnant with my 2nd child hopefully next year when it’s born (i don’t know the sex yet so have to still call it an it!) there should be some better “action shots” of how our breastfeeding tops work. I know sometimes it kinda difficult to get your head around how our nursing tops actually work so this should help alot.

SO by next wednesday the new breastfeeding tops will be available to buy on our website.

Take care, liz

Postal strike – bad times

A national postal strike has just been called and this can only mean bad times for us and our customers.

A lot of my family were postal workers at various times and i know that postmen and women work really hard for their money. It’s not easy getting up so early and it’s a very heavy manual job that whilst it’s good to keep you fit really does take it out of you. So i can see why it’s not fair that RM should mess with their pensions etc but man going on strike makes my head hurt!!!

Even with the region strikes (one of which has been Bristol where we are based) it has affected our parcels being delivered. Today there is a strike here in Bristol so no packages have been posted as they “go missing” whenever i have posted on strike days. I am a 1 person business and i seriously cannot afford to loose packages in the post and more importantly it isn’t providing a very cracking service to you guys either.

So  just for future reference please allow a little bit longer for your parcels to reach you, we are really trying our best and will get DHL involved if the problems with ROyal mail continue,

SOrry guys- Liz

Having trouble breastfeeding ? Get on-line .

This is referring to a piece written in yesterdays  The Indepenent newspaper

As quoted from the article” During pregnancy nearly 50 per cent of mums intend to breastfeed their child once it’s been born. However this statistic drops by nearly half once they have given birth, which suggests that many mothers who’d like to breastfeed find it difficult or simply can’t.”

To be honest personally i thought the % of mums whom would try breastfeeding would be higher, so i am more shocked at the low “try” rate than the ladies who try it and for whatever reason do not continue to breastfeed.

The article goes on to say ”

Research by the Bounty Parenting Club suggests that over two thirds of new mums have never been close enough in real life to a friend or family member who is breastfeeding to actually see how the child latches onto the breast. So where can they go to ask for help or advice?

“Whilst there is lots of breastfeeding advice offered to new and expectant mums, some cannot access the information and support they need at exactly the right time,” says Faye Mingo of Bounty.”

To tackle this problem Bounty has posted a new breastfeeding video onto its website, designed to act as a refresher for new mums. It includes breastfeeding techniques and advice about what parents should look out for to ensure their child is getting the nutrition it needs. You can find the video here

Oscar scan (translucency scan measurement (NT) and a blood test) in Bristol

I have good new i am currently 13 and a bit weeks pregnant and being the other side of 34 i wanted to check things out and go for an OSCAR scan. I know there are enough things to worry about in pregnancy but when you couple that with being a little bit older it kinda gives you even more to think about!

So i am based in Bristol and the OSCAR scan is not available on the NHS so if i wanted it i had to go private, so where to go? In Bristol there are 2 choices, the Chesterfield clinic

or the Spire clinic

I chose The SPire clinic basically because i knew where it was (it’s on the corner of Pembroke road in clifton literally 5 mins away from whiteladies road). For the OSCAR scan it was £196 . So you arrive then you have your blood taken and you are weighed. I was a bit embarrassed about being weighed as i am over weight and not proud of it but honestly the nurse whom does it is SO nice, plus if you don’t want to know how much you weigh you don’t have to see ! I was made to feel really welcome and didn’t ahve to wait very long at all for the blood to be taken. Things are so different from being on the NHS!!

Then you are asked to go away for 1 hour so they can test your blood for the 2 hormones that they measure (HCG and PAPP-A). It’s pretty cool because you can go to whiteladies road and that makes an hour go pretty fast! So now you go back and this is the exciting bit you get to see your baby. You don;t need a full bladder either which makes the whole experience a lot more comfortable. Dr’s and 1 midwife from SOuthmead hospital (they each are allocated a different day in which they work, so depending on which day you go you will see a different person) do the scan and the calculated the downs risk. So you have to answer a few basic questions, ie do you smoke,  your age, etc. The  you have the scan, which is done via ultra sound over your tummy. It’s great because you get loads of pictures and you will get the proper  number of weeks pregnant you are too. Via this scan the Dr or midwife takes a measurement from the back of the babies neck (they tell you what they are doing the whole time) and this is used to calculate you risk of having a downs baby. This measurement is the NT pasrt of the OSCAR test).

So you sit back down with the Dr and then they put your 2 blood test results into the computer and the NT measurement and then the come up with your downs risk. For me because i am 35 my initial risk was 1:350 , after the blood test and scan mine was given as 1:4100 . It cannot tell you if you are for sure having a downs baby or not only a risk, who knows you might be that 1 in 4000? But the test is 90% accurate .

The results also give you your risks for other syndromes:  Edward’s and Pataus syndrome.

I can strongly recommend the SPire clinic, everyone was very nice and made the whole process easier. If you have any questions they Dr’s or midwife answer them really well and i wasn’t felt like i was being rushed at all. It is an expensive test but i personally think for the peace of mind that it brings it’s priceless.

How our breastfeeding tops work

Ok so we received and email asking how our nursing tops work ie the functionality of them; we have written in the wording next to each shirt how they work and what we have figured out is a lot of people don;t read it ! ha ha, so this makes us think we have to get the point across without so much reading!

There is also a thumbnail of a photograph on each of the nursing top pages to show that breastfeeding top works, so just click on it and it shows the side opening in the under layer of the shirts.I think in future i will get a page done of it’s own to show and tell ladies how it works because i know when you are new to these tops it’s like how’s that gonna work etc ha ha!

So our nursing tops work on the basis that each shirt has a regular looking top layer, so they look like “normal” t-shirts and sewn into them is an under layer. SO they are 1 shirt, you cannot take the under layer away it’s sewn into the shirt so it doesn’t move about and bunch up etc.

So when it comes to feeding your baby you pull the top layer of the nursing shirt up so it exposes the under layer (your tummy is still covered by the under layer) and they choose which side you want to feed from. Then simply there are vertical opening on each side of the under layer of the breastfeeding shirt and you undo or pull down your bra, pull the underlayer across slightly and hey presto you can feed. After a bit of getting use to the top some ladies have perfected the art of doing it with one hand !

You can then use the top layer of the nursing shirt to provide some privacy and the bottom layer is great for mopping up little spills of milk. One ladies commented that her baby was quite a messy drinker and loved to ping off the breast then latch back on but in the process squirted a lot of milk every where and she then had to walk around with wet patches on her shirt, since using our tops the under layer soaked a lot of the excess milk up and she could pull the top layer down to cover the patches on the under layer! So hey they are many benefits to our nursing tops!!

Breastfeeding tops which offer you something different

Mama Feelsgood nursing tops offer breastfeeding ladies funky, original nursing tops which are super functional, descrete and are really good quality at affordable prices.

Hey we are NOT saying you have to have one of our nursing shirts to breastfeed your baby, but like a lot of things in life they make life so much easier. Going out in public can be a real confidence issue with some ladies when they know that their baby is going to need a feed whilst out. Hey when i had my daughter i kept making feeble excuses as to why i couldn’t pop out to the mall with my friends for a cuppa tea , reality was i didn’t want to have to face the issue of getting my boobies out in public let alone my gigantic jelly belly (and i’m not a size 8 pretending to know how bigger women feel i am a good size 18!) stretch marks and all; when the real issue was i was uncomfortable with feeding in public. A lot of women are, and i truly wished i wasn’t , it’s one of the most natural things in the world, but i couldn’t help the way i feel. Now i am 14 weeks pregnant with my second baby and i really do feel like things have changed. Lets face it i have a big wardrobe of nursing shirts to choose from! And they will help me to gain confidence and nbot be a hermit!!

OK so some people have asked who would want to wear their breastfeeding shirts after they stopped feeding?

Our shirts we like to think are really something different, for a start they don’t look like regular nursing shirts, they aren’t frumpy, and they offer originality and are really well made, so it’s not like you want to get out of them as fast as you can, we’d like to think you actually like them! A lot of our customers cut the inside nursing layer out and then wear then as regular shirts, whilst some like the fact that the inner layer kinda holds you in a little. Breastfeeding isn’t for everyone, so if you want to try if for a few months/ weeks/ days and find you don’t get on with it etc then you can still wear your shirt, it’s not like it’s so obvious it’s for breastfeeding that you couldn’t wear it when you weren’t!

Heidi Klum pregnant chocolate photo shoot!!

As seen in this morning Sun Newspaper

Pregnant model Heidi Klum has taken some rather unusual photos for her up coming book. Can’t say when i was just about to drop with my first baby i really had the urge to strip off and get covered in chocolate (hey why waste good chocolate when i could just eat it ha ha ) but Heidi obviously doesn’t feel the same, as she has stripped off and covered herself in chocolate and had her picture taken.

She’s due any day now with her fourth baby which she knows will be a girl, she’s still busy working away and we gotta say still looking really great. Can’t believe she has had 3 babies prior to this pregnancy and she still looks SO good, it must be in the genes…… darn! I just look at chocolate and i’ve put like 5lbs on!!

Here’s the write up from the sun:

HEIDI KLUM found an unusual way to satisfy her pregnancy craving for chocolate – by stripping off and being photographed smothered in it.

The supermodel has been working on a photo book called Heidilicious with pal Rankin and said the shot, above, is one of her favourites.

Revealing the snap on US telly, Heidi told host Ellen DeGeneres: “We were doing our normal shoot and afterwards he said, ‘Let’s do some pictures for the book.’ I said, ‘I would love to be covered in chocolate.’

“So someone ran out to the store and got, like, I think, seven or eight of those squirty chocolate things and they just squirted it all over me and he took the photo.

“It was yummy… especially when you’re pregnant.”
